MPLAB ICD2 header giving errors with older MPLAB ICD2

Description: When using the AC162059 (or other MPLAB icd2 header), it seems to work OK the first time after I power up.
However, on subsequent usage (just performing a reset with the debugger) I get errors such as:

icdWarn0044: Target has an invalid calibration memory value (0x0).

or

icdWarn0052: MPLAB icd 2 cannot validate a target device.

These persist until I remove power from my target setup and debugger, and then repower everything.
However, it only lasts again for one iteration.

I am using an older model 10-00319 icd2, with a revision between R15 and R19 and no "ECO 3013" sticker.

Resolution: These warning messages:

icdWarn0044: Target has an invalid calibration memory value (0x0).
or
icdWarn0052: MPLAB icd 2 cannot validate a target device.

signify that the debugger cannot see the target device, or cannot put it into debug mode.
They can occur if there is no power on the target device.

A way to test this is to:

- disconnect the debugger from the header
- disconnect the header from the target board
- connect the MPLAB icd2 debugger to the USB of your PC
- reconnect the debugger to the header
- connect the 9V regulated power supply into the side of the MPLAB icd2
- click on "Debugger -> Settings -> Power" and tick the "Power target from icd2" box

This will then supply a stable, 5V Vdd from the debugger to the target. You should try connecting again and seeing if the debug header will now work as expected.
ie - you can reprogram, reset, step, etc as normal.

If this is the case, then you should check the power supply on your target board.

If this does not work, please check the back of your MPLAB icd2 debugger.
If the part number (P/N) is 10-00319 and the revision number is between R15 and R19, but there is no "ECO 3013" sticker on it, then please submit a ticket and request an exchange for a newer MPLAB icd2.

When submitting your ticket, please include:

1) The part number and revision of your MPLAB icd2
2) The serial number of your MPLAB icd2
3) Your name, address and phone number
4) The nature of the issue and the error messages seen within MPLAB IDE
